I have never written the emotional part of this essay, in which I share how it changed my personal view of my parents’ lives. I’ve talked to several people about it in depth but have never set aside the time to share it more widely.

…Oh, and while I’m thinking of it, I should add this: As you compile and document the archives, show them to living relatives and record their responses. Beyond identifying folks in the photos, I have found that the older people often have stories to share that otherwise will be lost forever.
